Yes
I am going to the USA in the summer and want to add to my lens collection while I am out there and was wondering what lens you would advise me to buy as I am a beginner.

I currently have Canon 18 - 55 Tamron 70 - 30 and a Sigma 120 - 400 lenses

Bearing in mind I like to take wildlife and also nice closer shots, so has anyone got any advice as to what would be a good Canon all rounder which would suit me.

I need to start saving for this so a guidance would be appreciative.

Thank you

It seems you have most focal lengths already covered. Wildlife and bringing things closer is covered by your Sigma 120-400, and for general all rounder, I'd have thought your 18-55 would fit the bill.

If you have an interest in close up, you may want to think of a macro lens. The only other thing I would consider, if it was me, is maybe upgrading what you have for better quality glass.

Yes that is what I thought to upgrade my Sigma or the Tamron? for Canon as they are cheaper out there while I have the opportunity.

Just be careful where you shop in the US, you do need to check the local state taxes which are added after the listed price, try to find a zero rated sales tax state. and do check the total price with the UK, some times in the local stores it's not a lot different.

If you like wildlife shots maybe get a teleconverter (either x1.4 or x2) although you would have to see if the canon+sigma combination would work. Remember you lose 1 or 2 stops of light with these so you might be getting close to unworkable apertures, if your sigma is 5.6 at the long end, a x2 converter would mean it's max apperture is now f/11 which would mean you'd have to have a very sunny day and/or high iso to have a decent shutter speed for wildlife.

If your primary interest is wildlife, then I's suggest replacing the Sigma with a fast Canon optic - if you can stretch to that kind of expense...
Maybe the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM - you'd have to ask a Cannoneer if it's any good though...

its good in good light, but your sigma is slow too so it is just a big sack full of advantages:D

budget is a big factor here

:agree:
This is the first lens that comes to mind.

Others though are Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM and Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM.
but we could suggest £3000 when you only have £500 to spend
