Gold Lenses

why would any one think that Vivitar were a "Collectable" brand.
A curio may be.
 
Back in the '70s, the Vivitar series One zooms were highly regarded as among the best. Still wouldn't pay a grand for a pair though - not even solid gold!
 
I had a Vivitar Series one 70-210 f/3.5. Picked it up for €50, done the job when I couldn't afford a 2.8 70-200. Not bad at all, for that price at least.

Don't know about the lenses in this sale but if the lens was a f/3.5 70-210 Vivitar Series 1 then it really should be collectable. It was, and I suspect if you could get one now in good nick, is an excellent lens.

Why did I not put the extra pennies together and get one in about 1980? I got a Sigma instead which I still use now. Its not a bad lens at all, but its not a Series 1.

I've got the Tokina version of Vivitar Series 1 f/3.5 70-210mm, excellent lens but very heavy.

Even though I have the MP-E65 macro, Canon 100mmL and Pentax 100mm WR macro I always end up going back to my Vivitar Series 1 105mm f2.5 macro lens.

It really is that good ... doesn't have the absolute sharpness of the new lenses but the actual pictures it produces are normally stunning.
