....I'm afraid that I don't entirely agree, Bill.

#1 - The big overhead branch is what makes sense of the bird looking upwards so inquisitively.

#2 - The bark textures are both very attractive and show environment for the species.

#3 - The weakest image of the three and I agree with you about the OoF diagonal branches being a distraction. In fact, I would reject #3 and keep the other two images, personally.
 
That are also cropped a bit too tightly IMHO for my preferences ........ a wider view would help the balance
