Good book recommendation?

That's definitely a good one, but make sure you get the 3rd edition as it's the most up to date and the best.

Yes, another one for Bryan Peterson's book.

Another good book is Perfect Exposure by Michael Freeman

I do not recommend Understanding Exposure; thought I had the basics before reading it, read it and didn't have a clue anymore. Ross Hoddinott's Digital Exposure Handbook was brilliant though, and confirmed that I had in fact been right all along.

The best explanation of exposure I've read, however, was (perhaps surprisingly) found in John and Barbara Gerlach's book, Digital Landscape Photography. In fact, that is probably the best photography book I've read - you don't even need to be photographing landscapes to get use from it.

Another thumbs down from me for the Bryan Peterson book, borrowed it from the library to see why it was so popular

Hardly a mention of the histogram which is surely one of the most vital tools on a modern camera to assess exposure
