Hello all.

I'm very much a newbie - I still don't have my own DLSR yet - I am borrowing a very generous friends 450d with a set of lenses.

One of the most fascinating area's of picture taking for me is the amazing macro shots in the Macro section - but having put on the macro lens, it - like many other things - turns out to be significantly harder than it looks.

Can anyone reccomend a good starters guide type of book? I guess there will be plenty on the internet - and links also greatfully recieved, but I am a book sort of person - I like sitting back and thinking about the things I read.

Thanks in advance

Steve

There are a number of books available. Here are a few to start you off.

Closeups in Nature by John Shaw

Close-up and Macro Photography by Adrian Davies

Creative Close-ups by Harold Davis

Understanding Close-Up Photography by Bryan Peterson

Hi,

Sorry I didn't respond earlier.

I have ordered "Understanding close up photography" and "creative closeups" - with the idea that the first will teach me how to do it, and the second will teach me how to make it look lovely.

But... ordered second hand from Amazon and so far neither have turned up - but I have got e-mails saying both are en-route, so hopely I will get them soon.

Thanks very much for the direction.

Pleasure. It would be interesting to know what you think when you have had a chance to read them. It may come in handy for any future queries.
Bryan Petersen is an interesting guy and has some really good video tutorials on YouTube. Not everyone will agree with him, as he is quite happy shooting at f22 and many would violently disagree with him on that. ;)

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the recommendations; i have ordered the Bryan Peterson one.

Best wishes,

Tracey

Pleasure Tracey, I'm sure you'll find it useful. Petersen is an interesting character and his enthusiasm really comes through in his videos. Have you seen any of them on youtube?
