Good DSLR for Animation?

So my friend is looking to invest in a camera to use for some animation as he is a film student and is wanting to do more animation/stop-motion.

He's looking to spend around £400-500. I recommended the camera I have, a Nikon D5000. Are there any other camera's that might be more suited?

Single frame & combine them. I know any camera would suffice, I just wondered if any would excel. :) Thanks though.
 
lol, another one from bradford ! :D .

D5000 should be fine. something with exposure guide would be more helpful, but more expensive as well if Nikon. or am I wrong. I just know that my Sony has the guide and it helps with shooting in manual mode.

I like to call it that way, I don't know the official terminology.
that's the arrow that runs up and down for you to see if you're under or overexposing. hope it makes sense. very helpful stuff.
 
Ah right. For what he would be mostly using it for, he'd be on aperture priority so the camera would expose it for him. I just wondered if any other people used their camera's for the same purpose and could recommend one. One bundled with an appropriate lens would be ideal. :)
 
I don't really know I just guessed depth of field would need to be under control so assumed AP mode. I haven't tried my hand at stop motion but either way, I don't think exposure issues would cause much an issue.

I guess I will just recommend the D5000. That way, if he invests in any other lenses I could borrow 'em. ;)
 
The D5K does have this feature as I am sure most DSLR's do.....if the bars are to the right then its over-exposed and if to the left its under-exposed.

MY sister was wonting to do this, and was going to by a dslr that had some features she felt would really help her, ill text her tomoz and try and find out what camera it was and what the feature was that made it good.
