'Good glass' for the 50d?

Right, with all this talk i've seen on searches with needing good glass for use with the 50d, it's made me think.

I'm getting a 50d in the post tomorrow (hopefully) :D and i'm just wondering whether the glass that i have is classed as this 'good glass'?

I know the 10-22 and the 70-200 f4L is good glass, but is the siggy 24-70 f2.8 EX also classed as 'good glass'? i know it's pretty decent, but is it up to 15mp quality?

I opted for the 40D in the end and will build up glass on this body before looking to upgrade again. Hope this helps.

Pretty interesting that topic is.. Looks like a 24-70 f2.8L is on the shopping list next :D (Dependant on how i find the siggy)

That doesn't make any sense. The lens will give the same performance, whatever MP the sensor is... :thinking:
 
Its only an issue at 100% crop as the deciding factor in IQ has moved from sensor size to lens resolution.

Its very likely that you'd notice the difference unless you were looking for it tbh, for most photos that most people take, it will never be an issue. The images that the 24-70 takes on the 40D will be just as good on a 50D try not to listen to all those pixel peepers - by all means upgrade your glass but do it in response to a real need not just the anticipation of what you might need based on online reviews.

Correct...but the point in the earlier thread was actually aimed at showing the reverse scenario that images taken by the Sigma 24-70 on the 50D would be just as good on the 40D....ie, the extra sensor resolution was of little or no benefit when using that lens.

Quite, my point was more that there is little or no benefit to the extra MP in general. Perhaps for birding when looking at tight crops but unlikely for most scenarios.
 
So why would they bother adding it?
 
More MP than the competition. The 50D is a fine camera, the autoIso implementation is better, shooting at 6.3fps @ 14bit raw is also very impressive but I think you'll find that the ability to take a good photograph is no longer the top feature list at any of the camera manufacturers, they mastered that a long time ago. Feature lists are driven by the marketing guys, which is why the D400 will have even more MP than the 50D and the 60D more still...
 
i doubt you can squeeze any more pixels into the sensor area. the 50
D is probably going to be the best pixel density without serious noise issuse.
