Hi all,

when taking shots indoors in low light, the images that I take with the D300 flas always seems to be massively washed out, due to it being quite harsh. Any tips on getting better pictures in low light indoors?

thanks

Dean

Try a higher ISO and refrain from using the onboard flash as your main light source. A separate flash unit which you can direct and have greater control over is more preferable. Hope this helps :-)

What lens do you use?

Yes please confirm what lens you have as it may help with suggestions.

also, look at lowering the flash compensation.

it effects the amount of light that is released from the flash.

Go to the bathroom, get some toilet paper, cut a bit the size of your flash lens. Lick it a stick it on. You may need to add a few bit. This will act as a diffuser/softbox. It may work .. may not. Give it a go. I've done this a few times.

Try slow-sync flash - dragging the shutter. It can make things dramatically better.

By dropping the shutter speed, the ambient light balances with the flash. It lightens the background and the ambient helps to fill in the harsh shadows from the flash

I'm not familar with Nikon but there wil be an auto mode that does this for you, and then you tweak the brightness of the flash and background to balance them to taste.
