Hi all, am doing a shoot this weekend, and in the evening I want to get a few portraits with Canary Wharf very prominently in the background, so not too far away.... anybody know of a good landmark/spot to recommend for getting some shots from along the river?
Would be a big help :)!

I would think anywhere around Greenwich would be good as you won't get stopped by security. If it doesn't need to be right on the river then at the top of Greenwich Park near the observatory has some amazing views over the Docklands area.

thanks, sounds like a plan.
I think we'll give CW itself a try too, since it will be at night, and maybe we'll just look like tourists getting pretty night shots :-D!
The Millennium Dome is near CW... so any other spots for getting that in as well?
Thanks!

You can see both from the hill in Greenwich Park. I have no idea how safe the park is after dark though so be careful if you decide to do that.

Also, if you're doing night stuff just be aware they tend to get funny with tripods more than anything else around CW. You might do well to go to somewhere like Rotherhithe and see what you get along the south bank of the Thames in that area. The underground is virtually non existant in that area though and I don't know the DLR well so not sure how you would get there.

The carpark at the Millenium dome? It's a little far away

Another option is Trinity Buoy Wharf

I took the below shot the weekend before last for a chap who is a city trader and is shipping his bike off to the states when he moves out there in a month's time. He wanted urban scenes that reflected his life in London and the look of his bike.

This spot was good as it had the Dome and "the Wharf" in the same shot. Iconic London buildings

thanks for all the suggestions. i think that Greenwhich park may be a little too far, and at night would make the buildings look just like a little strip

Nice - how easy is it to get a car down there?

I got lost around the back of Wapping once, found the newspaper offices down a nice cobbled street with dirty old brick walls, possibly pennington street,/ that I thought might be good for a shoot sometime

Dead easy Byker. The day I was there doing a shoot a whole load of Porsches turned up for a club meeting.

There's offices round the back on the quayside so cars aren't a problem.

Near City Airport. This was taken from University of E. London - opposite the airport runway.

If you are going by tube, Jubilee line to Canada Water. It's smack bang opposite Canary Wharf, but on the other side of the Thames

Forgot, also go to the top of Manchester Road, Pier point. That looks dirctly at the Dome, and can be included in a shot of CW too

i forget which DLR station it is, but if you go on the DLR east of canning town (i think its west silvertown) there is a station platform thats raised above the surrounding buildings and you can get the whole of canary wharf (including 1 canada square) and the dome all the same shot. looks awesome at night but i've never had my camera with me

Cool - next time I'd down early one sunday morning I'll check out the location.

Thanks
