I'm very new to dSLR and have bought a second hand 20D with the kit lens. I've read some "guide" stuff online but I'd prefer to buy a proper book to help fill in the gaps (big ones) so I can learn what to do. Can anyone recommend some good beginner books, hopefully I'll only need one.

Thanks :)

I found it hard to get my head round the technical stuff when I first began but found Undertstanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson very helpful.

Another vote for Understanding Exposure here, it covers the basics very well.
Also stick on here a lot and study shots that inspire you to try and work out why - you'll learn a huge amount here as you've probably already realised.

This was one book I've seen mentioned a few times. I can't argue with 3 recommendations for the same book! I'm not sure if stepping into the photography domain was such a good idea, goodbye spare cash and free time

Thanks for your input.
