Good, sharp walkabout lens

Sigma 17-70 OS HSM - Has Macro capabilities although not 1:1 still good. Excellent lens and nice and sharp - I paid £300 for mine

Anyone got an image or two to post taken with any of these lenses?Landscapes,for example?:)
 
I've actually got a few that I'd recommend. It depends on what you take photos of though. The Sigma 105 Macro is a very sharp lens. I've been using the Canon 50mm 1.8 as my walkabout for years as I just love it on a crop sensor. If early shots are anything to go by, I'll be using the Sigma 50mm 1.4 instead now as so far my new toy seems lovely :)

The only other I'm told is good is the 70-200 F4L which is one of the reasons I've just bought it. Still waiting for City-Link to deliver it though. 9 days and no trace of it on their tracking system. Awesome :(
 
I will second IanC comments about the Sigma 17-70, I have got the non-OS one on my 400d and it is a cracking little walkabout lens providing you can get a sharp copy. I have also got L glass so I know how it compares to them.

Quite frankly I'd say it's not worth it. I had it from EOS 5 [film] days. While it is not bad bad, there is nothing excellent in it, apart from nice looking portraits at 105mm f/4.5 and fast AF.

As suggested above Tamron 17-50 is the budget entry into decent lens range.

Personally I'd recommend 24-105mm f/4 IS, and if you need wider just add Tokina 12-24mm f/4. You can't go wrong with that unless it is out of price range. As a bonus, it will be full frame ready :thumbs:
