Good travel compact camera

I got the Sony grip for my RX 100 mk1. Its expensive for what it is but it makes the camera less slippery and it remains pocketable. I had the GM1 with the 12-32, excellent little camera but not realy pocketable.

Thanks Jim.

I have been in a bit of quandary and this might just be the answer. I have my 750D in for repair having dropped it and Nikon are being extremely slow. Had hoped I would have in time for holiday next week but looks very unlikely. Would like a back up but can see that just sitting in a bag not being used when my 750 is returned. I think a compact would get quite a bit of use.

It's a great little thing, I'm frankly amazed by it. I bought it purely for my 7 week trip around Asia and New Zealand later this year and it's more than good enough. I'd put the output under normal use closer to an APS-C camera than a compact :)

I think at full price it needs a little more justification but at its current price (mk1) everyone should have one!

Hi Guys
I am watching this thread with great interest, I am in the same situation looking a good camera that wont spoil the family holiday dragging it around but I want a camera with a viewfinder. Very hard to see focus on a lcd screen.

£219 for anyone interested in the RX100? I am holding out for the RX100 M3 to drop some more but this is tempting! I like the faster lens, EVF and better video codec on the M3 but this is a bargain.

Amazon is having in their prime flash sale today a Sony rx100 m3. Could be a bargain for some.

Please don't ask the price yet as you won't know until it goes on sale, that is how it works.

Refurbished rather than second hand. I don't have experience of the sony refurbs, but the fuji x100 refurb I had was as new. They also come with all the protection of buying new, i.e. full warranty rather than the rather minimal protection you get buying second hand.

Certainly do like the Sony, wonder what it's like in bright sunlight? I have difficulty in seeing the screen in daylight, I would prefer an EVF in a camera.

It has a very good screen using Sony's 'Wight Magic' tech which makes it very good in bright sunlight. It's certainly seems to work very well.

The Fuji XF1 and X10 also had the LCD brighten up option, as I could never see those screens in daylight. I was always over exposing when I did that though, as you can't judge the exposure very well.

Panasonic LX100 can be had 2nd hand for that budget - beast of a camera.

Also RX100M2 - again second hand, or it's coming up on Amazon Prime lightning deal TODAY. Might be a bargain...

Yes, you do have to take it into account when doing a fully manual exposure.

£239 after cashback! Bargain for the people that gone one.

Still GX7 coming up at 4.10,,, ;)

Has any body got a good link for a comparison of specs between the RX100 I,II, III & IV? Thx

If you google it the links come straight up :)

Don't think the IV is out yet.

Just ordered a RX100 for £209. Better deal than getting a 2nd hand one at same price! Now onto selling my M4/3s gear, watch the advert section when I reach my target points!

Looking fwd to trying it, should compliment my Leica Q!

P.s, thx for the discussion, helped me decide

Thanks, I know Sony are doing £30 cash back on the mk1 when purchased in the UK, is the link you supplied an import?
