Good wide angle lens for Canon 5d3

Hi all i have a 5d3 with only a 50mm nifty fifty and a 70-200 f2.8 and looking to get something wider.

my choices are 24mm L, 35mmL or a 16-35L. i would love a 24-70 mk2 but its out of my price range.

budget £1100.

Open for more suggestions. it will be used for this:

Landscape
Group indoor shots of people

What things i would like:

  • Weather sealing
  • Fast AF.
  • Fantastic Bokah
  • Brilliant in low light(F2.8 stop minimum).
  • Built like a tank

This will save me from potentially carrying two cameras with me(my old 400d with a 17-50 tamron)
 
is the 24-70 Mk I not an option?

I don't shoot Canon but I would sway towards the 16-35L II
 
I would avoid the 17-40 it does not have the best of reputations and I personally was not impressed. If landscapes are the most important use go for the 16-35. However this is probably too wide for portrait work. If portrait is the most important a 24-70 F2.8IS would be the better choice.

You should be able to get a mint second user lens within your budget quite comfortably.
 
I'd have thought somewhere must have a new one still in stock at a discounted rate....
 
I have a 17-40L

It's tack sharp and has no noticeable aberrations. I have had it about 4 years and has been on a number of bodies including 40d, 5d2 and 1d3.

Either I just got lucky or some reports aren't quit true :D
 
Will have a check tomorrow but I've never noticed and softness, wish my 100-400 was as sharp

Rather rules out the Nikon as it would be MF only.

I don't know how it would fare for weather sealing on a Canon body either, I'd suspect not well with an adaptor that you'd have to use.

Doesn't exist and there's little wrong with the 17-40 as a budget WA.

Personally, on that budget, I'd be looking at the 16-35/2.8.
 
I heard the 16-35 L II is only proper weather sealed if u use a filter? That is strange if true same thing for the 17-40?
