Hi there, I am running google chrome on windows vista premium, for the last 2 weeks or so, I have had problems with the shockwave flash player, whihch is crashing constantly, and when it finally asks to be updated, I download it and it says 1 hour to install, and then crashes! Also noted that the google chrome desktop icon has now got a different name to it, "west" which seems very odd indeed. Also everynow and then when I type in the address bar at the top, it enters characters as stars, and wont go to the website. So does anyone have any ideas of whats wrong here? I cant seem to find any helpfull advice which shows how to correct these problems. Currently using FF until chrome can be sorted.

I have google chrome on about 5 machines, and 2 of them cant even display the google chrome home page properly. Its a very poor buggy browser

Sounds weird - unless you have picked up some form of virus? How about a reinstall of Chrome?

Very sweeping statement and completely the opposite of my view, the only problems I have ever had was when I went to the beta channel for Chrome.

?????

It's by far the best browser I've tried (and I tried them all when I switched from FF).

If 2 of the 5 can't display the homepage properly (and they are the same revision) I'd be looking at machine configurations...

I believe Chrome ships with it's own version of Flash but could be wrong, maybe just try uninstalling your current versions and reinstalling the manual way rather than through the update route?

Give SRware Iron Portable a go, it's like Chrome, but I find it works better.

One is a windows 7 machine, the other is a XP Pro machine
The ones that work are a MAC, A windows 7 Machine and a XP pro machine

My observation also comes from being at the blunt end of resolving several Chrome issues... like chrome picking and choosing what files to download, seemingly having a very sticky cache, and having several issues with graphics card hardware accelleration

I feel the later issue is the one the OP is hitting

BTW - the machines that have issues with the google chrome home page, did so from the second chrome was installed. Other Webkit browsers (Safari for example) render the pages correctly on al the machines

That would appear to be "gas at a peep" time

Never got on with Chrome and it took a lot of manual intervention to get rid of all the carp it left!

Thanks for the replies, I have only done an uninstall of of chrome and then reinstalled, and that didn't make a difference. I have not yet tried doing an uninstall of flash player or anything else. The name change on the desktop icon is really bugging me, so hoping I can find away to resolve this. I don't want to stop using chrome, as I find it the best browser I have ever used, firefox is very close 2nd, and I hate Internet Explorer! Virus wise, I have Norton on my system, it has picked up and removed a few threats, also malwarebytes has removed a couple of items as well. I will keep having a dig around and see if I can sort it out.

The fact that it is also Adware and tracks your usage habits is just alarming as well, I wouldn't go near it.

This will solve your problems:

"Google's Web browser Chrome thrilled with an extremely fast site rendering, a sleek design and innovative features. But it also gets critic from data protection specialists , for reasons such as creating a unique user ID or the submission of entries to Google to generate suggestions. SRWare Iron is a real alternative. The browser is based on the Chromium-source and offers the same features as Chrome - but without the critical points that the privacy concern."

I had to give up with Chrome.... couldn't view large sizes or lightbox on Flickr and it was doing my head in. Went back to FF4 and quite happy, so will be sticking with it.

It comes up on quite a few, photobucket, facebook, and the sun. Although I have just looked again on chrome and it now appears to be intermittent, so I am really confused now.
Me too as I've never had a problem with any site with Chrome... (I know that doesn't help but..)

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for that link, I have just gone onto chrome again, and it appears to be fully functioning again. But as I said that last time it started all over again, so will see how long it last this time.

For the last 2 weeks Shockwave would crash constantly. Chrome updated this week and touch wood, no shockwave crash since.
