GoPro Mission One ILS

No, I'm hearing issues with freezing up. So I'll wait a while to see if they sort it out.
The interchangeable lens version makes no sense to me.
A tough rugged waterproof body on a normal micro 2/3 lens with no auto focus.
For the same money you can buy a micro 2/3 camera with autofocus.
I hope they sell though. It would be a shame to see them go bust.

I have one on pre order, its meant to start shipping on Tuesday 2nd so hoping to have it by the end of the week, fingers crossed.

"The interchangeable lens version makes no sense to me." I guess your both still thinking of it as an action camera.

It makes a lot of sense to the people who will be buying it:
The timelapser who now doesnt have to shoot everything wide.
The slow motion fan who can now choose a focal length and film 960fps/480fps in HD or 240fps in 4k
The huge amount of film makers who do use a go pro for shots where they wont put a larger more expensive camera
But I think the biggest group will be the indie film makers, the ability to fit any lens on a camera that shoots 8k and costs less to buy than hiring an Arri Alexa for a day. Everything you might want as an extra to move your camera around, gimbal, sliders, dollys, tripods etc, are all much cheaper, why buy a £100 v-mount battery when a £30 powerbank will do the same job, being able to do so much more and much cheaper will appeal to the indie/student film makers, you can pick up an ILS and a couple of lenses for less than a new iphone costs and plenty of people are shooting on them.

I'll be using it mostly for timelapses, it will be great to get closer shots (i live in the lake district, mountains look very small on a normal GoPro when your a mile away) and some macro video, hoping to be able to shoot Bees at 480fps.

To add to what ive said above watch this video where he raves about the slow motion side of it, watch the clips hes shot. To the people who think this camera makes no sense, i would like to hear your thoughts once you have watched it.

I can't help wondering if there's enough demand for a really slow motion camera.
Besides which a few Sonys shoot 960fps with auto focus and cheaper,.
I'm not knocking Gopro, personally I hope it keeps them going.

I thought about it to use my M4/3 lenses with it.

Until I realised that there's no electronic contacts at all between the body and the lens.

So I'd be able to use my Zuiko MF lenses but nothing else without shelling out for some Laowa stuff etc.

Shame really. I was interested to find out how it be shooting 50MP photos on M4/3 lenses.

I'm hearing Gopro has been bought out by a company called Starman. I wonder how this will effect the products and future of Gopro. From the little I'm told Starman is in the Data centre components business, although their factory isn't finished yet.... :(

Definitely going to replace one of my Go Pros (10, 12). Looking forward to finally beeing able to film in low light. Never really had a problem with overheating/shutdowns, even in high temps but I've not been pushing the Pros to their max - won't be using 8K etc.

I shot this today with the ILS fitted with a Neewer EF to MFT convertor allowing me to fit my EF 70-200mm f4 with a 2x convertor, I was filming it coming down a channel heading out into the open sea, I measured the distances on Google earth and it was between 3800m and 1600m away from me depending on where it was in the channel. I didnt quite nail the focus 100% in a couple of the clips but its not that bad.

What's the equivalent focal length?
Certainly works OK.

According to GoPro its somewhere between x2 and x2.7 depending on how high you have the stabilization turned up at full level it will crop in a bit more hence the x2.7. That video was shot with a 70-200 at 200 and a 2x convertor, without the convertor the 200 was very similar to a 400 on my 5D4 that i had with me.
The downside to that is your no longer getting the extreme wide angles that GoPro's do so well.

Another thing ive found is that while you cant change the aperture, there is a work around. I put a lens on my 5D4 switch it on set the aperture then press the 'Depth of field preview button' then remove the lens while the button is still pressed in, this then locks the aperture at what you set it to and you then put it on the ILS, not ideal but does save having to shoot most things at f2.8, probably a very handy trick if using a macro lens a lot. But for distance (wildlife the 200 f4 and 400 f5.6 can just be used as they are.
