GoPro on DSLR

Yes
I’ve been thinking about getting a GoPro Hero 5 Session to mount on my Nikon D7500 with the hot shoe mount,
I do quite a lot of plane spotting photography and thought it would be cool to have a GoPro set up to record video whilst taking the pictures,
Another perspective I suppose,
And other uses I could think of too for the GoPro,
Has anyone here got a GoPro and has tried this method ?
Thanks
Liam.

I have 2 GoPros and have never tried this, though now I’m interested. Can you get a hot shoe mount for those?

Yeah I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube with a few using them in the Mach loop on dslr, it looks really cool and I’ve always wanted to try it out,
I visit airports a lot for spotting and thought it would be ideal to have a 4K along with my pics

I’ve seen of few of these types of video as part of wildlife blogs. They are good to show the photographers view as part of vlogs.

Shame about the lens in the shot

With the wide angle nature of a go pro lens that’s always going to happen if it’s attached to the camera. The only way to stop that would be attaching the go pro in some way to the lens hood.

Yeah I realise that. I’ve just ordered the mount to try, so we will see how it goes.

I’ve never had a GoPro before and I quite fancy having a go at one,
I could buy the hero 5 black but I think I’d be happy with the hero 5 session due to its compact size,
Should fit nicely on the top of my camera,
Could also mount on car I suppose if you’re into that sort of thing,
I’d be interested to see you efforts rick, when your mount arrives

You can select Linear View since the Hero 4 (with newer firmware) - which reduces it a great deal, some cropping though.
Keeping the horizon more central when you can minimises the effect.

Just noticed the session is on special offer on Amazon right now

We have a GoPro 5 session and got a Apeman for £25 in an Amazon lightening deal, for what you are looking at doing the cheaper option will work.
We got the cheaper option as my son and friends have started backflips on their bikes and although slightly heavier it is also much cheaper to replace. Video from both is very good, I am planning to use it camera mounted for a few motorsport events this year.

I sometimes mount my Hero 5 on my DLSR while on holiday. When out and about with my camera on a neck strap its easy to have it on there if I want to quickly take a video without having to dig it from my bag. I use a hotshoe to 1/4 thread then a 1/4 thread to action cam mount. This way it raisesthe GoPro off the camera a bit and its easy to tilt the GoPro so I dont get my lens or hood in the shot. Get an aluminum mount though the cheap plastic ones dont last a day.
