GoPros as Remote Cameras- which silver version?

Yes
I'm thinking of purchasing a GoPro Hero3+ Silver or Hero4 Silver to use as a remote wide angle camera. I was thinking of a cheaper DSLR but it seems the GoPro would probably be better suit to what Im thinking of using it for. Its mainly for remote wide angle images close to the water level on canals/rivers, wildlife time lapses and perhaps some video too.

Which version would you recommend, the Hero 3+ silver or the Hero 4? What are the differences between the two except the rear touch screen, 4K video or the £80 price difference. I've discounted the basic Hero version as remote control is needed so it has to be a wifi version. Is the rear screen really that useful (worth £80?) when photos can be downloaded to a smart phone or laptop.

The hero silver 3+ is good! Why not go for the new hero 4 silver? Built in screen instead of buying the screen to add to the 3+? Which would bring it to be more expensive than the newer models!

It is out of the 3+ silver and the 4 silver. Is the advantage of the screen worth £80? Does the screen make it easier to setup? Do you know if standard mount/case connects to a standard 1/4 thread or do you need an additional adapter?

You will need to buy a adapter, they don't cost much and you can buy them on ebay etc.

I think it saves battery life! Turning off the wifi and just using the screen to setup, but sometimes it can be easier to setup through your phone due to a larger screen, making things easier to see in the menus!!

Can be a difference if you use it alot in charging your phone and gopro or just gopro! Does drain the batteries quicker using wifi I thought when I owned 1

That is a good point, I did notice the battery life is more without wifi so that's useful to know.

I have a black 3+ and a silver 4.

The rear screen makes a huge difference, you get live view when setting up and can see the menu and adjust settings with ease. battery life is better on the 4 (different battery) so I'd deffo pay the extra £80

Just got myself a silver 4, but my Macbook won't recognise it, take card out of Gopro and fit it to Macbook and it works ok, strange

Have you checked the gopro's software on the device is up to date? I had to update mine for it to work on a Mac!
