ive been asked to do a shhot at a local youth club but its on the 18th of december and ive just checked out the location and the lighting is crap...i cant afford to spend out on lighting just before christmas so got to make do with what i can get ..any ideas guys all i have to hand is a 150 watt flood light ..not had much practice with lighting so a bit stummped ..dont know if i should just pass on it but want to do it if you get me

Agreed, If you have only the 18-55, could you stretch to a flashgun, it would make a world of difference, if not, you are going to struggle.
 
yer maybe a hire is the way to go ..i got the 18-55 plus i for the 55 - 200 vr il have to look if there is somewhere near me that hires and if so how much things are really tight this time of year

cant seem to find a company that hire near me ..i should also add ive got two flashes ..not good ones but jus old ..sunpak auto 240 and a cobra 440af

what do you think the better lens to use out of these two lens

Two questions occur to me:
  • what sort of shoot? (this may influcence lens and lighting)
  • can you use flash - perhaps more than one flashgun?
 
Personally, I'd pass this one up until you had the right equipment, especially if hiring is out of the question. I'm guessing it's a late shoot, hence the lights? Maybe you could bring the shoot forward in the day, thus avoiding flash. As for the choice of lens, this will depend on the type of shots you been asked to produce. The lenses you mention both produce very sharp images, but neither are up to shooting in low light. Best of luck with whatever you decide?
 
ok basicly ive been asked to set up in the hall and whoever wants them done then they can ..backdrops with be set up but the lighting just isnt good ..

Not sure if you have decided to pass this one along or not, BUT, if you did have to pass it to someone you might try to negotiate to go along with them - that way you are still involved to some extent and you will also get a bit of training for lighting etc. for the future. Or, try to find someone local with lights and 'share' the job. It's hard times for everyone at the moment so a bit of give and take might be forthcoming.
 
Or ... ring the local college and offer to give a student a portrait tutorial - if they bring the lights. Most students can take equipment on loan I think. Long shot I know - given the time factor.
