i am thinking of going up to the d90 from current d5000 is it really worth the extra cash and whats the main diffrences ? :)

You can retain autofocus with non AFS lenses with the D90 as there are some brilliant lenses by Nikon that do not have an internal motor.
 
I personally would go for it. The D90 seems alot more efficient what with AF whereas the D5000 dosen't have that option. I'm guessing it'll make lens options alot wider aswell.
I'm hoping to purchase the D90 myself so I would aggree with you updating your model :D
 
Depends very much on what you want to shhot as to whether you need non AF-S glass.....there is now a very good selection of AF-S lenses on the market both new and used. I have the D5000 and my next step would be the D300s. I'm not sure there is enough difference between the D90 and D5000 to warrant that particular route. Yes, the 300s is more expensive than the D90 but then its better all round and much more of an upgrade. Like I said though, depends on what glass you already have or are planning to purchase.

50mm f1.8 . . . Not a problem with the D5000; use aperture priority, select manual focus and enable the D5000's 'range finder system', page 156 in the destruction manual, full control over rear, front or spot on focus :thumbs: Just a thought?

I had a D90 . . . traded for the D5000's flippy-flappy screen, I cant get up and down for low angle shots, so, a very personal reason for the change. However, I miss the 3" view screen and the larger viewfinder, but as for the rest, it does it all for me . . . even better in some ways . . . :thinking: certainly as good . . . I'll now duck, awaiting flack . . . :cool:

I'll twiddle thumbs a while, they might do a 90 with a 3" flippy-flappy screen? Then there is the size and extra weight . . . :shrug: 5000 to 90 . . . a sideways move unless you desperately want a collection of those old lenses. Personal view :bonk:

I'd probably advise against a D90. Other than adding the ability to focus with non AF-S lenses, there isn't really that much in it.

I'd probably be looking at the D300s or a second hand D300 with low mileage (if you're not interested in video) for the vastly improved AF system.

I have a d90 and its amazing but I would say its not a big enough upgrade from the D5000, it would cost to much for a limited improvement.

Maybe wait for the D90's replacement?
