Yes
..and bought a Canon 7D :D

Been using a 40D for a couple of years and was pretty happy with it to be honest but the upgrade bug started to appear again  I mainly do aerial photography, both full size and model with a bit of motorsport and wildlife thrown in. The 40D was good but I wanted higher quality when I cropped in further. So hoping the 18m/p rather than 10m/p with provide that and I can now have a play with movies, bet that doesn't get used much

I did look at the 5D MK2 but the lack of flash (I know I should buy a real one), loss of focal length and loss of shutter speed pushed me towards the 7D in the end.

Anyone else upgraded from a 40D to a 7D?

Got offered a great deal on a s/hand 40D, but after having a play with the 7D i'm saving my pennies for one

One of those things that just works, feels and looks just right, so it probably is

Few guys at wrk have moved from 30d/40d to 7d with mixed results:

On one hand there's a lot of potential for cropping in using those extra MP and the AF seems better, plus, the build quality seems a notch up. They like the video too.

On the other, the difference in overall quality when printing images as DPS is minute and they've seen some random metering suggestions that are worse than what their old cameras offered.

I think the change was worth it for them in one sense - newer technology and all that - but what was promised b y the blurb isn't nesseccarily what you get in real life.

Had a chance to play today and start to get a feel for my new toy. Feels very nice in the hand, sturdy I would say. layout of controls is good although I would say the feel of the buttons and wheel on the back is better on the 40D  I found the buttons take a very firm press whereas the 40D were always just right. The rotary wheel you have to get just right whereas the old one was very easy to rotate with your thumb whilst holding the camera to your face. Probably get used to it.

Menu is an importment, just looks slightly updated. Better battery display rather than 100% , 50%, 0%.

Shutter is faster and quieter. Was very impressed with the sharpnes of my first pics straight out of the camera and into Lightroom. Nice colour as well, better than the 40D in my opinion.

I want that Hog...
Enjoy the camera BTW !

Cheers guys. Intend to give the camera a workout at RIAT next weekend

I've recently upgraded to the 7D. I went from a 40 to a 50, but bought a 7D a few weeks ago and really used it for the first time in anger this weekend.

I'm really pleased with it, and although complex, I got the hang of it quite quickly. (Now my basic skills just need to get better to do it justice!)

Have fun !

Steve

Congratulations, on your purchase Andy i'm sure all the controls will soon feel familiar and great first picture . I will also be at RIAT next Sunday giving my 7D a serious workout :D

A lot of the layout is fimailar so I'm just trying to find out about the new features. Focusing system is totally different to say the least!! Having a play with AF point expansion which seems pretty good for moving objects, used it for the MX shots.

Really looking forward to RIAT, had a real good time last year. Fingers crossed for the weather
