heya...those of u who have read some of my posts will know that i had to cancel my 500D order from simply electronics (apparently its a really bad service and i was getting impatient!!) so today i went along to Jessops, bought my Canon 500D with kit lens (18-55mm) and a tripod that was half price (jessops own make)

I got it home n took a few snaps.....some are posted in the 'portrait' section, and some in the 'nature' section....if youve got the time....or your seriously bored than u can take a look!

please let me know what u think....ive got a month to try it out n i if dont like it i can have my money back. Do you think i should stick with it...or am i just one of those who will always be hopeless at taking pics!
we are talking £709.99 here!!! do i stick...or just give up?

I tihnk that if it's something you enjoy doing you would definately benefit from keeping the camera.

When you first get your camera you probably are not happy with the results I know I wasn't you just have to stick with it, read some magazines and know how to use it without looking, etc

That way you will get some much better photos if u understand how the camera works.

Stick with it - the camera isn't going to help your creative eye, just allow you to hone your technical know-how. You obviously wanted a camera; changing it for something else won't make a difference

thank-you!

yeah i wanted one....just dont know if im able to do the pictures i wanted to take with it....im not clever enough to understand all the technical parts!

you should have seen me trying to work the tripod!

Sit back, read the manual (Canon do very, very good manuals) and just digest in small doses. Just getting used to using the camera in P mode would help a massive amount. Don't worry about what lenses can or can't do - work with what you have – and just take shots, it doesn't cost anything with digital :)

I can remember the first day I used my Praktica 35mm SLR; didn't have a clue and managed to expose about five rolls of expensive Kodachrome tranny without anything close to a decent shot. Still, I learned a few things and it got me started.

I know one of the books I used to start with was a John Hedgecoe book that dealt with the absolute basics of SLR use - can't remember the name but have a look on Amazon or fleabay. There's a book out at the moment called How To Photograph Absolutely Everything - click here. Bought my mum it a few years back and she's learned a lot.

thanks!
ive been reading small bits.....i had a mess about in AV mode today (dont know what that means!) but messed about with depth of focus and pinpointing an AF point in live view!
