Got my camera now just need a little help

Received my praktica PLC2 yesterday and would like a little advice.
Bare with me I haven't got a manual for it.
It wasn't switching on so replaced the 3 small batteries with one AA battery as it looked liked a perfect match but is that ok? I take it the the needle on the right hand side in the viewfinder is the light meter? One more thing I was running some film through it and the mirror would intermittently jam but the next time I pulled the lever it would drop back down. Is there anything I can do to stop this.

The battery should be 4.5v

Yip, the needle is the light meter indicator. Make sure the battery is the correct voltage, the wrong one can effect the light meter's accuracy. You can compensate for this if necessary, but it's a nuisance and there's no reason to do this if the right one is available.

Basically you've put a 1.5V battery in a camera that needs 4.5V for power. Get the right battery in it, and hopefully things should improve.
