right, so i've got a sony a390 with the kit lens (18-55) and i'm really enjoying getting to grips with it. i want to start expanding my kit, but i don't know what route to go down so i'm looking for some advice.

option 1

Depends what sort of photography you want to be doing.

E.g. if you want to do wildlife/sport then you'll want one of the zooms (neither of them are good quality though) and the 50mm will rarely get used. Similarly, if you have no interest in landscapes you may as well not bother with the ND.

A backpack is always handy to have and the Lowerpro bags are excellent quality...
 
To me, there's nothing in that list that would suggest you desperately want/need a zoom and therefore option 1 or 3 is probably the best...

To be honest, as unhelpful as this is going to sound, no one can help you chose new kit, you just have to work out what you're missing the most in the kit you already have. If you're getting to 55mm and always wishing you had a bit more, you need a zoom, if you're setting up long exposures and always wishing they were a bit longer, you need an ND and so on...

Once you've done that, then other people can help you with kit recommendations :)
 
I think most of us have been in a similar situation when starting out.

I already had a bag with my camera, but the first things I bought were a decent lens cleaning cloth, a flash, and then a tripod before moving onto buying other lenses and a bigger bag.

The tripod is certainly handy but it doesn't get used all that much, the bag, flash and cloth get used quite a bit though - so that would be my recommendation(s).

then, when you find yourself thinking "I'd have got that shot if only I had a........", go and buy one.

Otherwise you'll end up with a load of crap gear you'll never use.
 
Agree with the above, get a welding glass for the long shot.
 
Just finished a wedding, so maybe I`m a bit tetch, but seriously, learn how to use what you have and go from there............:thumbs:

Plus I have lost the lens cap off my 50mm.......b****r.

Best advice there is!

When I got my first Digital camera (350D) it took about 2 years before I felt I needed a tele zoom.

All I bought before that was a set of close-up lenses for Macro work (£10-£15.00 on Ebay).
