So, I lost my graphics card from my main machine on sunday morning, when a rush job had to be finished, and I realised that I had been sent an AGP card instead of a PCI Express. So my PC became the unwitting donor.

Now it is running off the basic integrated graphics, which isnt going to happen for too long.

I am interested in what you all run in your PCs and what are considered good photography graphics cards. Previously I was running a Geforce 9600GT with 512mb. It was ok, but i am very open to suggestions...
 
I run a Gefore 9800GT and it runs perfectly.

I think as long as the card is relatively recen and has plenty of ram pretty much anything will do.
 
i am looking at the 9800GT with 1GB ram.

I dont play any games on it. Well, i dont consider flight simulator a game. Landing a 747 in a cross wind with 300 passengers on board at Kai Tak Airport is a serious business.....
 
Right now you really couldn't go wrong with XFX's 4850 XXX providing your budget would stretch that far.

An amazing card at an amazing price - once it comes into stock.
 
Do graphics cards actually contribute anything to photo editing? I thought they were really only for 3D graphics/games.
Isn't CPU/RAM more important?
 
They make b****r all difference to photo editing, apart from when you combine a suitable GPU with Adobe CS4. And even then it's much of a muchness unless you're a serious photo editor running through large amounts of images and/or huge filesizes. All you need is something half-decent with its own dedicated LUT and you're laughing.

But lazaroonie did mention about some games and the 4850 is a cracking card for an astounding price. And it works with CS4 for GPU Acceleration.

Graphics cards to make a difference to both 2D and 3D applications, but you'll notice a bigger improvement in photo processing by adding extra RAM if required or boosting your processor.
