wacom make the best stuff

my friend has an intuous 4 and loves it for 3d rendering

I'm on a ****** one atm (borrowed) but if I get on with it will buy a bamboo. Wacom entry level

Intuous is pro level kit

Wacom here too. I've just got a small one :suspect: even that is pretty good, but not for the level of accuracy you'll be wanting...

Agreed. I've got a Bamboo, which has a roughly 6"x4" work area.

My boss has an Intuos4 Medium, and it's a gorgeous piece of kit. The work area is considerably larger than my bamboo. I've used it a few times and really liked the extra space!
I couldn't afford the Intuos, nor could I fit it on my desk  My Bamboo sits quite nicely beside my keyboard

I use the Bamboo Fun by Wacom, its a great bit of kit.. i have also been told that the big ones take a bit of getting used to and as Chaz says, they can be too big..

I have a friend that is a GFX designer, and he does a lot of photo editing for very successful photographers, and exhibitions.. he edited and printed the images for The Landscape Photographer Of The Year awards that was held of the South Bank, and he only has the tiniest Wacom! i had the same one YEARS ago and only payed £25 for it!

So, the moral of the story is.. you dont HAVE to go nuts.. but the Intuos is NICE!!!

Just got my Bamboo Pen & Touch for Christmas, didnt get on with it for a few weeks but went but to it 2 weeks ago and not stopped playing with it!

Its amazing! and only an A6 working area pad - although its just perfect for me and my 24" monitor :D

I got the Wacom Bamboo a couple of months ago for £39.99 in Aldi. It's fantastic and a great starter pad. Hopefully will get the Intuos 4 later this year but at the moment the Bamboo does that what I want.

I'm thinking of going for the Intuos 4 medium, but a completely uninformed choice simply based on how awesome you are all claiming it to be.

Can I ask other than size what the difference between it and the cheaper models are?

The extent of my use is going to be using the erasure and art history brush to set transparecy levels on certain layers....it will be quite intricate though, I don't want ANY bleed at the edges.

Slightly unrelated question, does Illustrator CS4 handle photos too if I were to slip one into a layer? Does it mess with colours without me wanting it to?

Gary.

Gary...any chance for a quick review of this tablet ?
And photo of it next to keyboard/mouse would be nice :)
I would like to see how big it is, as I think large would be too large ;D

It's awesome mate. absolutely sublime to use, looks great and built solid. Makes editing a breeze :) I can navigate the whole user interface of mac OSX using the pen, just as quickly as using a mouse, overall I love it. No real negatives, the time it saves me with processing like Skin Smoothing is insane, I could never go back to using a mouse. I'm gonna get another for home...

Great :)

Would you go for large now or medium is the right size ?
Ive seen some tablets at Focus and was amazed what you can do with them :) ( I used a tablet around 10 years ago but it was different story then )

And am thinking about large wireless as well:)

I would not buy any bigger personally as I don't have the desk space. If space was not an issue, and money was flowing, then of course I would go bigger. I'll try and grab you some photos tomorrow....wireless would be very cool, I often have mines on my lap :)

Gary.

Gary,

I have the Intruios 3 which is virtually identical to the 4. The medium sized one is probably a good idea as if you get one that is too big then you end up having to move the stylus too far.

Whatever you do don't pay anything for a Wacom mouse. They are absolutely rubbish and virtually unusable.

Looking forward for some photos :)

Have to find on net how big large is :) as Im worried it may not fit as well hehe

Gary,

Just checked and the tablet I have is a 9x12. If anything I think it is actually a tad too large. I fancy getting a smaller Intuios 4 for the laptop.

I think 9x12inches is the size of intuos4 medium as well ?

I have an Intuos 3 A5 Wide, it can be software matched to the shape of your screen.

Thing I like is the pressure sensetive pen that changes the pen size the harder you press.

:D

I used to have the small A6 Graphire4 and it was excellent then I went for the larger Bamboo Fun which ius superb - Little difference in use between it and the more expensive ones - although the Intuos is better quality.

I actually miss the smaller one but if you're using it for art work the bigger the better! A guy in my office uses it for 3d art work and he's very good at it and swears by the medium Intuos4.

Hope you enjoy it Gary.

That's a bit bigger than the medium I think? Mine is 9x5.5 (Bamboo Fun though)

I use an A4 sized Intuos 3 (previously an A4 Int 2)....can't really imagine anything more suitable.

Bob

PS...completely agree with the mouse sentiment, mine's still in the box

intuos4 wireless has active area in size of 8x5inches....bit small

I have an intuos1 A4 and an Intuos 4 "Medium". I prefer the work size of the A4, but the actuation pressure sensitivity of the Intuos4. Photo work is a lot less critical than "From scratch" digital art, so the Intuos4 is about the perfect size. Doesn't consume too much real estate and doesn't need a mortgage.

The pad surface on the Intuos4 eats pen nibs alive though. I used my Intuos1 for 7 years, never needed to change the nib. The Intuos4 needed changing after 2 months of occasional use... :S
