Hi there all you techie types :D

I have a couple of quick questions for you: Does anyone use Photoshop CS5 and/or Lightroom 3 with a graphics tablet? If so, is there any real advantage in using one, as opposed to a standard mouse?

I've been helping a young student with a college photography project and refused to take any money for it. His dad has sent me a message that he's going to buy me a tablet "no arguements" as payment but I don't want him to waste his money if it's not of any real use to me.

Cheers for any advice :)

Some people love them, some hate them. It's down to personal preference and it can take a little getting used to, but it can make certain actions much easier e.g. I find it much easier to draw selection shapes using a graphics tablet rather than with a mouse.

Thanks for the response, Will.

The guy insists on geting me one so I'll see how much use it is :)

Make sure it is a good one. I have an Aiptek which isn't as precise as I'd like. Wacom seem to be the ones to go for. They are great, however, if you're trying to freehand an effect in PS/LR as the stylus pressure can be used to signify how much you want to apply the effect.
