how do u know its an import ?

Sometimes it's hard to tell, with Nikon its an international warranty but I knew my 18-200mm was a grey import because the warranty card was for a 5 year warranty which was only being offered in the U.S. With Nikon they offer international warranty, Tokina, a European warranty so in some cases its better to buy grey import.

You refereing to Gray's the retailer or Grey's as in Grey market?

Gray's wont have imports, its a Nikon dealer
