I recently dropped my 70-200 afs lens and the quote from Fixation was £657 which is was prepared to pay. It needed a new zoom unit. Imagine my surprise when a new lens arrived back!

Not something I would be boasting about to be honest.

Maybe not and I accept it if you think I have the morals of a dog but I did call and I gave them my card details...they confirmed payment and then a 2 Weeks later I realised I had £600 more than I should of. Still waiting for them to call!

As I said, morally incorrect and I accept that...but either way it's still their fault they cocked up their transaction.

and that's exactly one of the reasons why the rest of us end up paying more for the product ... theft!

Lol come on now, you can't classify it as theft no matter how you don't like the situation.

I bought bought the lens from a shop and paid (or so I thought) over the phone. They said "yes sir that's all gone through we'll send it off tomorrow"...they did, I recieved, mysteriously I have an extra £600 in my bank account. They never called back to reclaim any money (which I can only assume they don't have) and so if this is the case they effectively gave me a lens - I have never said I wouldn't pay or that I stole.it from a shop. If a shop makes a mistake that doesn't mean it's theft. Perhaps morally incorrect for me not calling back to say "let me give you £600 that I have extra"...but not theft :)

And you pay extra for the item due to rise in the market (if there is a rise) you pay extra in INSURANCE for things that get stolen.

Would the owner have consented to you taking the lens without paying for it? No!
You have obtained it by means of an error and it is theft, there is no excuse in law that says you can take other people's property 'by mistake'.
Even at this moment in time you could face criminal charges.

Which isn't going to happen because I'm happy to pay for the lens should the company call me and claim back the money.

Anyway, we're stealing the op's thread, if you want to continue this nonsense please PM me.

An honest person would have called them again and told them!

Agree with you. Its great to get that bit of luck and if people / companies balls up thats their problem. After I left a shop a while back I realised they had not charged me for one of the 3 pairs of shoes I bought. The shop dont give you the shoes, they take them to behind the till so no way I could have willingly taken them on the sly. IIRC you need to check change before you leave a shop. If I get 10 mins down the road and find out they had short changed me I cant go back saying I am £20 short - works both ways.

The law of averages suggest only 20% of people will be honest enough to give the money back so yep, the majority are on my side ;)

As I said from the start: morally maybe I don't have a leg to stand on...but they are a company, they cocked up and if I did that, I wouldn't expect to have a job...is it up to me to make sure they do their job right? Or is it up to me to be a decent human being and inform them of their mistake, pay them (again) and go off in life knowing I'm an angel...

I think I'll stock to having the morals of a dog ;)

I am a firm believer in Khama. Although you didn't pay for the lens you will pay in some other way later on.

I have had plenty of opportunities to be dishonest, amazon always leave expensive goods outside my place without me signing for them. My friends say I am mad for not calling them and not saying they haven't turned up. that's not how I live my life. I treat people as I'd like to be treated and believe generally I receive good karma. Sometimes s%# happens, but that's life.

As far as the op is concerned, that is a right result. I sent a 80-200 2.8 to fixation for a focus selector switch replacement. When they returned it, it was like new.

You have some way to go before you have the morals of a dog.

My dog returns stuff to me all the time that he didn't pay for or that I said he could have.

Enjoy your lens.

I love these bits of luck!

About 6 months ago I bought a sigma lens for £600, paid over the phone (or so I thought).

The company sent the lens but never took any money!

Was yours a warranty repair?

It was a repair. I actually registered the returned lens with Nikon. So a large repair bill which I could have done without but a new lens eased the pain. Should I claim back the labour charge as it wasn't actually repaired. Only joking. :naughty:

Regarding receiving goods ordered and received when the vendor has not charger for the purchase, I have to say I would be in touch to let them know.
