This juvenile male GSW is one of four which visit our garden and this morning he allowed me to take some close up shots :). I had to take these at ISO 8000 due to what passes for daylight here at the moment.
The last (uncropped) shot is a little tight in the frame but it holds the most detail which is why I've included it:

Last one is a bit tight as said Mark but pretty good results at that iso (y)

No. 1 is very good.

As stated by Alan, it is an adult male.

Thanks everyone. That's right about the head colour. I hadn't notice that change. Pretty sure this bird is one of two which fledged this year and this male has become more used to people hence I was able to get close enough to take these shots. I can't be sure it's the same bird of course but I did watch the adults bring the two new fliers to our feeders a few months back, showing them how to hang on the suet bars and pick up seeds etc. Now all four fly in and out independently and seem to co exist pretty well. Maybe the two younger birds will search out new territory next Spring, who knows. I the meantime though, they're good to watch and photograph :)
