Ok so I haven't got a decent zoom lens and this little chappie is extremely shy - it's taken me 3 weeks to get a shot and through the window at that

Still... extremely happy to have caught him

Its a start and im sure you will et more chances as you have a well stocked larder, hopefully a bit of sunshine will help.

Its never easy to shoot through glass but at least you have got something. If you have to shoot through glass, try keeping the lens (with a lens hood if possible), as close to the glass as possible to reduce reflections in the glass, try. A little more contrast might improve what you have got and give it a bit more punch.
I hope you dont mind me pointing out that its a Great Spotted Woodpecker, not greater.

Ooops lol thanks for spotting my mistake

Every time I try and get close to the glass it scares him away but I'm going to persevere and hopefully he'll get used to seeing me there

Its all downhill now Ellie , once you take your first bird pic your hooked, I can see a long lens in your future.
