Well done for getting out Russ, miserable here too, especially with a chest infection :(
Looks like you missed focus on the flight shot, maybe on the leading wing rather than the head ... 2nd looks over-exposed so lacks detail. :)

No blown highlights Russ, just over-exposed as in needing a bit more black and reduction in highlights ... large crop won't help mind.
Quick edit but using as posted probably doesn't really show what I mean...

Edits a good improvement Russ and focus looks good on the 2nd flight shot (y)

- I think you're right, Wez. To be honest, I was concentrating on the distant static bird when it suddenly took off, so the shutter speed was too low to get consistently good in-flight shots. Only after posting did I realise I had just one half decent flight shot, which I should have posted instead. Ah well, at least I got something out of my walk today!
