Here's a tricky situation. Has anyone got any ideas how to remove a grip from the body when the spinny thing simple spins instead of unscrewing?

is it canon on Nikon

you may have to cut it off

I'd imagine the screwdriver and hammer approach would simply rip the tripod thread out of the bottom of the body.

You didn't say what body or grip, but I'd probably be looking for ways to dismantle the grip, then use a pair of pliers on the bolt inside the grip to unscrew it from the body.

If they're genuine, were new, and less than a month old, I wouldn't do a DIY job to remove it, I'd be making a warranty claim.

I never understood how my cheap Phottix grip could have metal gears but the Canon 4x price version has plastic gears

from my past reading you have to "gain access" (read: break into the pastic casing) to the bottom of the threaded tripod screw and use the screwdriver and hammer to tap the screw around to unscrew it.

Ahhh gotcha, and there was me thinking you meant just wedge the screwdriver between grip and body and give it a good whack. ;)

Spot on as regards removing the grip it take's a while but once the plastic is out the way it's easy. Good luck..

Take it back to where you bought it if it is still that new.
I have a BG-E4 sitting in front of me, and looking at that, you would need to completely destroy the grip to get it off.

If you attack the grip like that I doubt you will be able to claim for a new one under the warranty.

Use a drill instead of attacking it with an 'ammer and screwdriver. You might damage the camera or your hands....

No, use the warranty card. :)

I used to have a 3rd party digital grip which was excellent and a fraction of the price. Poor show from Canon me thinks.

Anyway, I'll take it back to the retailer as I bought it from them and not from Canon. Can't see how they'll solve this issue without damaging the camera also lol

Just received confirmation that it will be sorted under warranty :)
