Grip recommendation for Canon 50D

I'm thinking about getting a battery grip for my Canon but having looked around I'm not sure what's best for the 50D.

Stick with a Canon or go elsewhere, they seem pricey for what you get?

I've been using the hahnel grip with my 50D for over a year now and it's fine. Probably not quite as nicely built as the canon one as the buttons don't feel as 'solid' but still very good and a lot cheaper.
It comes with a battery tray like the canon one, so you can use AA's if you get stuck. It also has a little infra red sensor and remote shutter release which I tried on mine and it worked fine, although not used since as I have a chord release which i prefer.

Also thinking of getting a grip for my 50d so has anyone else got any input on this?

MeiKe grips are the dogs cahoonahs, I've had 3 all told now and all have been perfectly acceptable.

i use the canon grip, and lce on the strand has one at 40 quid!!
also as canon have discontinued them jessops are doing them brand new for 49 quid!!

I used to use the phottix one when i had the 50D,it was fine.

The question would be what would be your use level?

The occasional indoor shoot? A heavy duty weekly barrage of images?

The heavier the use, the more sensible it'd be to go for an original grip, however if you're shooting 20 shots a fortnight (just for example) then you may want to consider the suggestions given above
