Ive spent yesterday and today phoning and going into shops, only to be talked to rudely and fobed off!!!
Im so angry......i want to spend money in their shop and they are about as helpful as my little toe!!! I have to say I expected the guy in Jessops to be a little bit more helpful!!! has anyone else had any problems and who are the best to go to? Im really reluctant to go back and spend quite alot of money with someone who appeared bored and uninterested!!! :bang:
sorry rant over !! lol

Sounds like they don't deserve your business. :nono:

What exactly are you after? Camera body? Lenses? Let us know and I'm sure people will offer some helpful advice and suggestions.

I had a similar situation today in Jessops, although the guy was helpful with regards to features and lenses that may be useful to a beginner like me he clearly was just steering me to their current promoted DSLR for a cool £650.

I had a nose about them, held them and took in prices of lenses etc and calmly left. My 2nd hand camera should arrive this week :)

lol thats what i thought, lol

Im after:-

- Spare battery for my G1

- Flashgun either - DMW FL360E
- DMW FL500
or
- olympus - sl36
- Crumpler bag
and lighting equipment and backdrops

Which obviously is going to be a fair amount of money and they just couldnt be bothered!! lol Any advice on where to go? Id like to have a look at it in person even if i dont buy from there as i find it hard to buy online without seeing it!!??

Had the same thing when I was buying my last camera

Got lucky that my local Curry's had a chap who was obviously a photographer and got loads of good advice and chat about all the latest gear.
Price matched too and knocked a few extra quid which paid the bus fares

Just trying to say that its not always the shop, but the staff that work there

Worst of all was John Lewis and they usually get some praise

Louise, you're right, that could add up to a fair bit, but you should get decent service whatever the amount imho. :|

In terms of service, and usually being able to see and handle the equipment, Robert White have always been awesome to us.:) Have a look at their website"here" or give them a call for advice. They are based in Poole, so an easy trip for you.

I tend to buy from them whenever I can, even though their prices may not always be the cheapest...

Happy hunting! :D

Edit: link not working, (sure it's me, sorry!)

The guys in my local Jessops are always very helpful and seem knowledgeable on the subject.
Their only real problem is having RGB Photo a couple of doors down the street.

For lighting equipement try the Lencarta link at the bottom of the home page, Garry Edwards will be very helpfull, I looking at their gear in a month or so myself.

Is that shop in Poole the one that lost all the Nikon's to a fraudster, name rings a bell

oh really?? i havent heard of them, i will definetly have to have a look, i cant get the link to work? but ill do a quick search on google!! Its so frustrating when people dont give the level of service they are paid to, i wouldnt mind if they were busy but i was the only person in the shop and there were 3 shop assistants in there!! lol

Yeah, sos, goofed-up the link!! We have got almost all our lighting kit, backdrops, softboxes ets from RW - and the service is excellent. Give them a call and pop over, I'm sure you'll find their advice invaluable in the long run.

(I am not affiliated with them at all btw - just happy with the service!)

oh thank you!! im just on their website now, looks great!! have to venture over!! and really helpful being just down the road!! :D

 They carry all manner of useful, (and some handy obscure bits n bobs!) - but it's worth calling them first to see if they have what you're looking for, in stock, beforehand! ;)

Let us know how you get on!

I think you have to make an appointment to visit them in person (although I'm not 100%!!) and they do tend to be on the pricy side, I believe, although their service is excellent.

Ive just had a look through their website and the things i want arent actually too expensive!! but id rather pay more than get frustrated lol and they are 2 mins from where i live :D

They are sometimes open to a gentle haggle too - esp. if you're spending a fair bit. ;)

I have had cause to phone them up and get advice on several occasions over the years, and they've never let me down. Imho, it's well worth the extra on certain items. (Our camera bodies have come from elsewhere though tbh - the price difference was generally too big.)

I am a big fan of supporting the "local" guys though - like you I like to see/handle the kit if at all possible, and to me, it is usually worth the extra. :)

Robert White are great, as said not always the cheapest but great service and advice, I have spent far to much in there.
I have ways had good service from the jessops at castlepoint, I always speak to the manageress again had great service and deals.

Louise are you sure the sales monkey in Jessops didn't clock that you are buying online and just wanted to touchy feely the gear in person?
Hence he might get a little abrupt quite quickly?

they are about as helpful as my little toe!!!

I will have you know your little toe plays a huge part in your balance:lol::thumbs:

I found Harrison Cameras in sheffield excellent and they are 65miles away over the snake pass - still worth the travel though:thumbs: to get a deal and great service
