Note to self:
When finishing a portrait shoot, remember to remove the wireless transmitter from your belt before putting the camera on a shelf and walking away. :bonk:

I knew it would happen one day, and it was this morning... the usb cable pulled the camera off the shelf and it crashed to the floor. Result, one 24-70 zoom in several pieces :'(. On the bright side, the D3X seemed unscathed but has gone back to Nikon anyway for a health check. Nikon Professional Services have also promised a five day turnaround on the repair which is a small silver lining I suppose.

Sorry to share but I'm feeling a little low... I won't be making that mistake again anytime soon! :shake:

ow that hurts!

Won't be doing it again will you? :p Good service from Nikon though, if they live up to their promise!

I think it would have been at least 48 hours before I stopped crying and was able to post that in here... :(

Sorry to hear that, though you have coped better than I would.

I gently knocked my new tamron 90mm against a brick wall. Luckily, there is only a very feint mark on the lens cap but I was still pretty worried.

OOPs.

That's a not bad service offer from Nikon. Wether you get it back in that time is to be seen.

Keeps fingers crossed

Thanks for all the good wishes, I'm getting a warmer glow inside now!

... although that could be the large brandies....

Flashman,

Why not look on the bright side. Assuming you run a business you will be able to write this off as an expense (not a MP variety). Also the cost of the repair. Just think of it as less tax to pay!!!

Also, you might have insurance. Also, you would be able to purchase a replacement without paying VAT.

So what the problem. I know, your not running a business.

John

Ohh! Bad news!

I dont know if anyone makes them for camera cables (depends on the cable I suppose), but in callcenters you used to get cables with low effort release clips to cover this sort of thing. For when people walked away from the desk forgetting the headset was on.

Yes, it is a business (otherwise I wouldn't be able to register with NPS)... not sure whether to claim the insurance though, it'll only bump the next premiums. <sigh>

Oooooh... now I'd have one of them if I could find one for USB!

I'll have a look and see if I can find any details. In a previous life I used to develop software for call centers, so I spent a fair amount of time in them but my dealings with the hardware were limited.
I would have thought that a usb version would be available given the voipy nature of a lot of headsets these days.

Thanks... really appreciate that :)
