How deceiving dimensions can be when you read them on a sheet of paper (or web page).

The weather forecast is good for the weekend here so now I have to decide where to try it out.
 
You should see a major improvement in the ease of bird photography not to mention sharpness, so money well spent. :thumbs:

Thanks guys. It is a bit of an extravagance but I was using a very old pan and tilt head that I had to keep locking when things went quiet only to lose my chance when the birds arrived as I had to unlock the head before I could shoot. Now that I have and effective 600mm, I thought I needed something a bit better.

It's not really an extravagance Donna compared to the cost of your 300mm lens. I trust you have a long enough lens plate to balance the camera and lens properly?

Yes thanks Cedric. The only pain now is getting the balance point right as I change teleconverters. I don't think that will be too often, I suspect the 2x will be a pretty permanent fixture from now on.
