I was trawling through a site the other day looking for a second hand camera when I came accross an ad placed by some misguided student who was asking for a 'free' camera. It basically stated that as a student interested in becoming a photographer, he could not afford his own equipment and was therefore looking for anyone who had a 'redundant' camera to let him have it for free.

This sounded just about reasonable to me as many people have odd bits that they no longer use, although I wouldn't give any for free myself.

The funny bit was that he stipulates that he was looking for people to donate a Canon EOS 1ds mark II or EOS 5d, and would be greatful if they were accompanied by as many lenses as possible!!!

Wonder if he got any replies?

I've been a member of another forum for a while and we often donate old pc bits, camera bits etc to other members, in fact one guy purchased a Steam game as a gift for one member just because he asked.

I see nothing wrong with asking as long as you are grateful for whatever you get, hell, if anyone had any old nikon bits lying around I'd be extremely grateful, but I was bought up a hell of a lot better to ask for top of the range stuff!

Some people just have no shame, or perhaps its the anonymity of the internet that does it! :(

They should try placing an add in Private Eye - notorious for this kind of thing, and this would be at the lower end of 'expectation'!

In our local free paper there was an ad running for months for someone wanting free Canon equipment because they were a care of a disabled person - I cared for a disabled child for the whole of her life and it never occurrence to me to ask for anything unrelated to her because of her condition!

I don't know if they have moved because now the regular ad is someone asking for Canon equipment and L lenses

There was a scam going on here as well , person was asking for a
wheelchair for his disabled mum etc , no funds just asking for it to be donated , would pick it up etc etc

He ended up selling them on gumtree untill he got rumbled :nono:

There's always one ;)

Ah I used to do newspaper adverts, started at the bottom as you do and it was private adverts first. There was a guy from a company trying to flog wheelchairs for about a year, as a private person (items under £100 were free to advertise for one day), the hassle that it caused was unreal.
