Hair in viewfinder

Hi I have a canon 5d Mark 1, there is an eye lash in the viewfinder, any ideas of how to get rid of it, I have no idea how it ended up there. Is a canon service the only option?

If it's not showing on your images, it IS in the viewfinder. I have a few in mine, not worth the hassle (or price) of a service!

Take the lens off and hold the camera face down so any dust/lashes on the mirror can fall directly out, either that or use a rocket blower to rid of it. Look through the viewfinder straight away to see if it's gone, no real need to put the lens back on to look

If the eyelash looks reasonably sharp then it's on the focusing screen, which is where most of this stuff gets anway. While it's irritating, it wont be affecting your shots. My preferred method of dealing with dust on the screen is to use a static brush such as the Arctic Butterfly. Blowers are OK but they do tend to just redistribute the dust.

It's possible ( but less likely) that the eyelash has somehow found it's way onto the other side of the focusing screen, inside the prism housing in which case the screen needs to come out to get at it.
