Of to Lanzerote in July and having never taken a DSLR abroad before i was wondering if it's ok in the hand Luggage?

Will i get in trouble if i take it out while in the airport to take pictures etc?

Depends on the airport. Some are combined airports and military bases and it's a bit of a no-no to take pics there! There are usually signs indicating no photography when photography's banned - if in doubt, ask!
 
East Midlands, if anyone has flown from there recently?
 
Also depends who your flying with for luggage allowance, who you flying with?

I always take mine in my HL and no probs taking shots in the airports

A lot of airports now have notices regarding photo's, so be careful.

I often fly with just hand luggage and putting DSLR in the suit case is fine as you handle the case.
Now Esay Jet have a fiar weight policy, which means there really is not a weight limit.
Ryan air are strict on the suit case size for hand luggage and its weight.
Personally I put lens in my combat trouser pockets to save space and weight in my case.
 
you'll be fine with the hand luggage - depending on the size of the case for the camera you maybe allowed to take it ontop of the hand luggage. i think they're fine if your taking pics after you've checked in of the planes - depends where you point your camera.
 
i know photography can be frowned upon a certain airports but surely there are loads of holiday makers that take pics etc.. its all a part of the holdiay experience. Obviuosly they might have word but as long as you are not doing anything dodgy thats all it will be!
 
Just flown with Thos. Cook to the Canary Islands & there were no problems in hand baggage. The only problem was actually getting into the bag during the flight due to lack of legroom!!!
 
I've taken pictures at airports all over the world for more than 20 years and never had a problem. The only time I've been stopped was at Dubai when walking from the coach to the boarding steps and I started to take a pic of the plane. Somebody in uniform [maybe security] politely informed me that it wasn't allowed.

In recent times I've taken photos of the architecture within T5 at Heathrow, things of interest within US and far east airports, and planes outside the terminals. So long as you're not stupid enough to take pictures in specifically forbidden areas like immigration, customs and security checking then it's doubtful that you will end up in cuffs. But don't blame me if you do.
 
Yeah, taking in hand luggage is fine, I've been on 8+ flights with it and they haven't said anything.
Not sure about taking photos in the airport though. I have seen signs saying you're not allowed, and for that reason I haven't as I don't want to be arrested! Otherwise I would have as a couple of the airports I've been to look really nice.
 
I'd always take my camera in my hand luggage, I've seen the way some of the baggage monkeys treat suitcases and I really don't like the idea of my expensive camera equipment being tossed around like that. Hand luggage all the way for me.
 
the only thing that tends to get put in the hold is spare batteries, chargers. people will say if yuo are seperated from your main luggage you wouldnt want to be wothout your charger, for me i would be a bit more concerned for my clothes to be fair!
 
I flew from east midlands in Feb and took some pics inside the airport with no issues.
The funniest thing about the airport was coming back and asked my the police why I flew to alicante and not valencia to watch the f1 testing.
