I don't browse Flickr much these days after selling my camera since it usually only ends up frustrating me that I can't go out and take some pictures, but today this did it in a whole new level. I have only glanced at some of these images and I'm in awe; I really love the effect and it's something that must take a lot of time and experience to achieve, but definitely something I'd want to try when it comes to getting some glass and mirror back in my hands.

Here's a page for an example of this guy's work:

I haven't asked for permission to post this link, but I don't think it would be a problem. You should be able to see quite clearly how the effect leaves it's signature on each of the photos in the set.

I'm aware it's something to do with a long shutter speed accompanied with hand-held movement to produce that still-perceivable image made abstract with blur... but just how do you manage to get shots like that?

Yep I've seen his stuff before. Very cool, and actually quite easy to do. You can see what shutter speed he's using because he tells you on the caption. To do it, just set the camera to shutter priority (Tv) mode and select 1 or 2 secs, then when you've pressed the shutter move the camera smoothly upwards (or whichever direction you want the blur).

hmmm
i get these a lot but delete them

ps used to do the out of focus impressionist faking shots

In the absence of EXIF data, another clue may be in one of the groups he's posted some of these to: Tilt Shift, which suggests a TS-E lens.

I wonder if he's adjusting the tilt and/or shift during the exposure.
