hard drive image maker

is there a decent free app that i can use to take a snapshot of my computer as it is now and save to disk to re-install?

as i've just reformatted this sony laptop and with the updates and uninstalling ******ware i've just about had enough lol

The 2 that I have used on a regular basis are Macrium Reflect Free edition and Driveimage xml

its not free, unless theyve freeware'd some of the older versions (which i doubt).

Which OS are you using? I have created a system image of my C:\ drive using the Microsoft supplied backup-and-restore features in both with Vista and now Win7 (I *think* I did one in the XP days too - but not sure).

I had an hard drive die on me in the days of Vista and after slotting in a new drive, I was up and running, fully loaded in about 20 minutes - so I know it works.

...And it's free.

PS. I keep data files on other drives/volumes so the image only covers the system and programs. I back up the data files using Karen's Replicator, which has worked well flawless for many years.
