Hi all,

I'm getting a bit fed up with having no hard drive space, and unable to install programs due to space. My current HD is a 250GB 7200rpm Seagate model.

Ideally I'm trying to get a large HD for as cheap as possible - has to be a 2.5inch 7200rpm. I want at least 600-700GB - although I'm ok with buying a 500GB one if I can find a decent one dirt cheap.

This is the cheapest/decent brand high capacity one I can find:

I will probably also get a cheap HD enclosure and use the old HD as an external.

Any recommendations or suggestions?
 
That's a decent price for the Seagate, Amazon also sell the IOMAX enclosure, I've got one - it's ok but only USB2.

I already have an external. I want the internal HD to have more space - I'm personally not keen on running programs from an external, and I use it for backup rather than as a main drive.

Not sure what you mean.

I think I will get the Seagate I was originally looking at - although it's annoying to see 1tb 3.5inch drives at a much cheaper price.

Still not sure about which enclosure, I've seen a couple of cheap ones like the IOMAX - what's the quality like on it? It needs to last at least as long as the drive will, and not fail in a couple of months or a year.

I will buy the seagate drive from amazon, and then look into HD enclosures a bit more. I will probably go for the cheap one, on the basis that it's cheap to replace if it breaks so providing it lasts a reasonable amount of time I should be ok.
 
I bought a Unitek external drive caddy, and just drop the required 3.5" Sata drive in as and when required. Has a 5 year guarantee, but not sure if they'll still widely available - Maplins no longer show it on their website.
It could be worth checking hotukdeals for the best deals on 2.5" drives, there's usually a deal mentioned every few weeks, and have been a few deals for 3.5" drives recently.
