Just wondering if any computer wizards are able to help sorry if its a long one

My setup
64gb ssd os drive, this starts up with different amounts free each time? sometimes only 2gb most times closer to 8gb

raid 0 internal drive on a marvell chipset controller 4 x500gb driver

External LAcie 2big 2tb quadra

I had to install another controller card for this as I didnt have any spare sata ports as I have a couple of other drives installed.

I have updated the driver chipset for the marvell controller to the latest one.

Lightroom catalog is on the Lacie drive

The problem, the lacie drive looses connection, sometimes will work find for a while other times drop out after a short while, windows has to think long and hard to see the drive.

Ive installed a trial of hd tune pro to see if I can see any problems

On a speed test that only had a average speed of 70mb/s
the other raid drive was well over 200
I thought they would be similar speed wise as both are sata raid 0

so if anyone can recommend a way for me to diagnose the problem that would be great.

re the SSD - have you put the sata controller into AHCI mode? do that first.

what OS are you running? if windows 7 and you havent already run the windows experience index test, it will set certain settings for the SSD such as disabling indexing and prefetch. also disable the hibernate file (see google, turning off hibernate doesnt remove the file). if not windows 7 then google for the windows settings to adjust for SSD.

re the lacie drive - what connection are you running? have you replaced the cable? how long have you had it? we had a failing lacie enclosure once that did appear/disappear etc.

yeah Im in AHCI mode
Ive done a lot of the tweaks that include turning of indexing etc for ssd, will double check the hibernate one tho.

Ive tried the lacie connected with FW400 usb2 and esata, I was having a few problems with it with usb as well. but its on esata now. I think it could be a duff one. it was a refurb from calumet so still got a month of the refurb warranty. email them to see what they say.
