Hardware advice needed

My brother has expressed an interest in joining the camera owners of the world. He has a very limited budget for his first camera and would like some advice please.

He has 3 options

Nikon D40 for £260
Sony A100 £330
or
Canon 400D £420 (this would be a real push, cost wise)

His question is which should he buy, is the 400D worth the extra £90 or would he be better off with the Sony or Nikon.

Just to muddy the waters a bit he could go for a Pentax K100d at £290 or the K110D for £370

Where did you see the A100 for £330? best UK price I can see is £370
 
TBH. they are all pretty much similar in someway or another and whilst i would reccomend Nikon, someone else will reccomend Canon etc etc.

Best thing to do is take him to Jessops and let him play with all of them. Some people will decide against a camera on the way it "feels".
 
what about the 350d slightly older but also quite a bit cheaper, would he consider 2nd hamd as you can get some good bargins that way.
