Has anybody ever removed the rear element from a Nikon 85mm f1.4?

Hi guys,

My rear element is filthy (picture below). the dirt is on the inside of the lens on the back element

I have access to a clean room so I could open this lens up and get it cleaned. I have found plenty of complaints about this on the internet but no body has posted a tutorial.

As far as I can see there here are two screws that are holding on the electrical contacts and then three larger screws that obviously hold in the element, there is a smaller screw that is 180 degrees from the electrical contacts. it seem to be screwed halfway in. Is that aligning something?

Any advice greatly received.

A small part of me really wants to mess about! Do you think my insurance will cover me if I dismantle my lens and can't get it back together again! :D

Cheers for the recomendation, I though they asked for big bucks to do this sort of work?

I would use any one but AJ Johnstone , google them first I wish I had recently, terrible customer service.

Thank you for the responses, I have been researching this last night and I think I would need to remove the aperture mechanism and some of the autofocus bits before the rear element would come free. I don’t think I would be happy doing this as things would be orientation specific and would be able to fit in at all angles.

Thank you Goldenstar, there are damming reviews and horror stories of A J Johnstone on the internet. I have asked Fixation for a quote, and if it is reasonable I will post it to them, if it is going to cost hundreds I’ll probably just ignore it, I didn’t notice a poor in image quality, Took this photo on Sunday with it.
