Has anyone gone from 85mm 1.8 to 85mm 1.2 back to 85mm 1.8?

I am thinking of buying a Canon 85mm 1.8 lens, but am unsure if I should spend the extra and get the 1.2 version.

I photograph people a lot, weddings, portraits, and generally shoot as wide as I can get away with. I appreciate that the 1.2 goes wider than the 1.8 does, but I would probably not always shoot it at 1.2 - although I bet its pretty addictive to!

So just wondering if anyone has gone from the 1.8 to the 1.2 and then back to the 1.8, and what their reasoning was, and any other feedback etc.

How usable is the 1.8 version wide open?

Also, in reference to the 1.8 version, how does it compare to the 1.4 Sigma (other than aperture)

How about going in the middle and get the Sigma 85 1.4? I heard its a pig to focus the 85 1.2 and better off with manual focus.

The 1.8 is fast at AF and sharp wide open ime, Sigma primes just have that look wide open with very creamy bokeh. If it were me Id go for the Sigma.

Seriously for the price of it you could buy one easily and even sell for almost no loss if you later got 1.2

Mine is pretty amazing and considering the price I am very happy. No issues wide open; obviously extreme corners are not as sharp as centre, but definitely better than 50/1.4

I am sure 1.2 creates more visual pop than 1.8, but getting the focus right will be not as easy

i recently bought the 85 1.2L, super sharp wide open and fantastic bokeh but as mentioned not easy to nail focus at 1.2, but i sold it off after a few outings as I just could not live with the painfully slow focus. i heard that the mk 2 is a bit better, tried it at FOcus on Imaging but i did not notice a big difference

I''ll probably get the 85 1.8 now
