Has anyone purchased the new Sandisk 280mb/s SD card?

Just wondering if anyone has got one of those new Extreme Pro SD cards that claim a 280mb/s write speed.
I know that no Nikon supports the new standard but was wondering if there is any advantage in using one at the old standard. I'm using the 95mb/s Sandisks with a D7100 and they are still slow after the first couple of shoots.
 
some of them have a higher minium write speed, but if the camera cant write/process that quickly anyways then you might not gain much

fast read is nice too tho for quicker downloads :)
 
I would imagine a write speed of that magnitude is only really of great use to film makers that are shooting either extreme high FPS stuff or high quality 4k footage...rather than photographers...I guess some of those shooting MF or even D800 highest quality Tiffs it might be of use but if Nikon are not currently compatible that rules that out I guess

Most cheap card readers will not be able to transfer to those kind of speeds I think...
 
Thanks guys but I think you missed the point a little.
The D7100 has a very small cache which fills in a about 6frames and full speed it then slows a little whilst I presume it fills its internal memory then slows again as it writes to SD card.
The new cards are UHS-2 (II) which gives the incredible 280 MB/s. The image size on a D7100 is about 17MB. 7x 17 =120MB/s so I'm looking to write as quickly as possible so not to suffer buffer fade. As Nikons only recognise UHS-1, I was wondering what the max UHS-1 speed of these cards are, then I could see if its worth taking the gamble on whether the D7100 can write that fast.

Problem is the camera's buffer. Presumably that's six frames of Raw before it slows. A faster card won't do much for that, maybe an extra frame or two, maybe not - you're already running pretty fast cards.

Most cameras are quite limited when it comes to Raw bursts. Learn to shoot in shorter bursts (helps editing no end, too). Or switch to JPEGs. Or get a 7DMkII ;)

No, the point is that cameras only have a certain write speed and no amount of increasing the speed of the card can improve this - the bottleneck isn't the card it's the camera.

For example, my D610 peaks out at around 50mb/s from memory so there's no benefit from getting cards with a faster write time than that. I would imagine yours is the same or slower and therefore upgrading the cards would see no benefit.
 
Faster cards can definitely make a big difference but there's a limit to how much and that's down to the buffer and how faster it can move files to the card.

Going from a basic class 10 SD card to a 95Mbit/s Sandisk card made a decent difference even on my old 650d and it definitely made a big difference on my 70d. You need to find out whether anyone has tested the 7100 buffer with different cards and see where the speed vs price is best
 
@Gaz J that's a fantastic link just what I needed. Its a shame the D7100 has such a small buffer. Looks like the sustained rate is only 2 fps. I tried earlier and couldn't actually get more then 5frames in a second because shot 6& 7 were slower. I was looking to shoot skiers jumping gaps
 
The faster cards definitely clears the buffer quicker though so they're worth it for that but a fast card is definitely not a fix for a small buffer.
