I actually live in next door Folksworth, but I say Stilton as nobody has heard of Folksworth. Stilton is generally pretty good, but it's quite big. The Stilton Cheese is excellent for... erm fish! and The Bell is famous for... cheese! Got a couple of shops, school and post office. Some posh houses and a council estate, but inbetween there's lots of reasonable cost family housing of all sorts. Obviously very well placed for access to A1(M) and both Peterborough and Huntingdon train stations. What more do you want?

FB, can I ask you honestly, if you only print to say A4, can you really tell the difference between pictures taken on the 1D and 1Ds? I'm not talking pixel peeping, I'm just saying that if you pick up two best quality A4 prints from either camera (both will be stunning, I think we'll agree on that) and look at them normally, can you immediately say which was taken which camera?

I generally only print to A4 but it is nice to have the option to go larger. If I print uncropped on A4 could I say which camera - almost certainly no. That said, it is rare to be taking the same image side by side with different cameras for a blind test.
But, other reasons for going for a 1Ds were:
1. I grew up on film and like the way lenses work (i.e. 24mm is proper wide)
2. I tried a 5D but couldn't get on with different user interfaces in the heat of the moment.
3. I have the freedom to crop in post processing and still retain top quality
4. Printing big is a nice option to have
I used to run 2x 1D MkII (main and spare) and then decided to upgrade one of them. I sold a 1DII and was faced with the dilema of a new 1DIII or a used1DsII for about the same money.
The 1DsII won out for the reasons above plus the same user interface and batteries. Everything is interchangable.
I'm very glad I did. I almost always use the 1Ds now but the 1D makes a great back up camera and also is good for high speed stuff.

Thanks for that answer. It's as I thought, although I bet most 1Ds owners would swear on their lives that the extra sharpness just shone like a beacon from postcard prints and screen images.
I would agree with you 100% on #3. When you can't always frame exactly, eg sport and birds in flight say (anything that moves fast really) the ability to digital zoom - which is all that crop cameras do anyway - must be a big plus.
Those two cameras of yours certainly make for a fearsome combination

Indeed it does. To be honest, I can't see me changing until Canon get the best features of both cameras in one body (ie. 16Mpx full frame and 8.5fps) or one of them breaks!

Maybe you won't have to wait long. I think the rumoured 1D4 could arrive at PMA in a few weeks time.
How about 16Mp, 12fps, and D3-beating high ISO and AF? That should set the Canon amongst the Nikons
I wonder if Canon will scrap the 1.3x crop? They might need full frame to get the high ISO performance.I don't think that spec would actually surprise many people these days, but what an amazing machine it would be.

That's what I'm hoping. I actually wonder if they'll put the 5DII sensor in a 1DIV. It might kill sales on the 1DsIII but they've probably largely done that with the 5DII.
I hope they scrap the crop, I'd rather have the freedom of a bit wider coverage and the option to crop in post. I also think I'll wait 6 months to a year before doing anything rash to make sure teething problems are ironed out, so I don't see me changing kit this year!
