Have I been sold a fake Sandisk card?

Highly dodgy mate...I would report this to sandisk and the cops and eBay.
 
just tested all my lexar and sandisk cards, the 45mbs sandisk read @ 45mbs as per card speed, wrote at 40mbs. my lexar is quoted at 60mbs and read at 80mbs and wrote at 50mbs...so yes the write speed is a lot slower but for me that's not important.
 
There seems to be a lot of Chinese sellers on ebay now who are claiming to be based in Jersey, they seemed to have swam the channel from Portsmouth. Also, it seems that the have also been basing themselves in my hometown of Swansea. I contacted one recently asking to collect a lens adapter which they refused, when you look at their feedback, they are China based.

If I'm buying of ebay I prefer to buy from sellers with very little or no negative feedback, it just makes me feel safer with my purchase. Also, I only buy from sellers who specialise in the product field to which I am buying.

The shop where the OP bought from has history of poor feedback.

50 negative out of 18189 is just less than 0.3%, I wouldn't call that a bad history of poor feedback over a year.
Over the last month that percentage goes down to 0.15%
 
Opinions. You can make figures to suit any way you want.;)

In my opinion it's poor for memory card type purchases due to the known fakes flying around, perhaps I didn't make that clear in my post. Theres about 15 neg or neutral feedback for cards or readers in the last six months and a total of 107 dissatified customers in twelve months. (When I was able and self employed I couldnt afford to have 107 complaints / unhappy customers in twelve months, I wouldn't have lasted five minutes, I only stopped due to ill health).

To me, I wouldn't purchase a card from that company. As a percentage, it's not bad if purchasing say a lens adapter, where it's a mechanical item rather than electronic. Just my opinion. (y)

I am gonna correct my earlier statement regarding 6+fps continuous shooting with SD cards. you can bloody do it with the latest fast SD cards from lexar and sandisk....2000x (300mbs) insane! just a matter how fast hte camera's buffer/cache can write to the card

Looking at the site that the OP bought it from and doing a quick comparison with 7dayshop the savings don't seem that great for the risk involved.

A couple of years ago a guy I work with offered to sell me a CF card that his girlfriend had mistakenly ordered from eBay. She needed an SD card. I took it home popped it in the camera and it wouldn't even record an image. Looked just like a Sandisk card. Gave it back to him a few days later telling him to buy from a reputable company to be told that his girlfriend had ordered an SD card from the same place and it wouldn't work in their camera.

Like a number of people I prefer to pay a little more and be sure that I'm buying the genuine article. But then again 20/20 vision in hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sandisk wanted photos of everything and CrystalDiskMarks results and confirmed it as authentic BUT defective.
They will exchange it or I can send it back at my cost to memorybits (I hate that bit of ebay rules).
 
@gadgeteer , I have spoken to Consumer Advice (Trading Stds) and Ebay and do not need to pay for return under sales of goods act. Supplier has sent me a freepost envelope. Apparently this applies to auction items too if they are defective.

I only wish Nikon had told me that although compatible the D5100 can only read/ write @45MB/s
