Hi everyone,
I just bought a brand new 5D MKIII from Camera World and the first file numbering starts from E50A9546.CR2. Is this usual?
I did find though when purchasing that the camera was in a box that had come with the lens as part of the package but they told me that they had sold the lens and the camera was left as still brand new to be sold separately.
Can anyone shine any light on this please? It just seems odd that the numbering starts so high. Is there any application I could use to check the number of shutter actuations this camera has had?

Thanks Greg, I am going to do that first thing tomorrow.
I am really annoyed with this.
My alarm should have been raised perhaps when buying it, the box was for the package along with the lens so obviously they had already sold the lens separately, but it never clicked during the moment and I thought this could be just common procedure.
Not very happy at the moment. I just clicked a few shots and slotted the card into the laptop to check the images and first thing I am confronted with is this high file numbering.
 
Did you format the card before use?
 
If you haven't formatted the card the file number will just carry on from the last shot you took on it. My 5D3 started with a folder call C01C0001. The easiest way to find out if it's been used is to go onto eoscount.com and find out that way. You'll need to use a 32bit version of your browser though because it doesn't work with 64bit browsers.
 
They often split a camera/lens combo - white box deals they're usually called...

I'd format your card first. That sounds like the issue.

The other way to check is take a pic, put it onto your computer and look at the EXIF.... that will tell you the shutter actuations.
